Wisdom Tooth Project is serving both seniors and their caregivers by teaching about oral health in aging and by connecting individuals with affordable dental clinics. Today, the Wisdom Tooth Project is a part of Authority Dental.
Wisdom Tooth Project history
Since 2009, Oral Health America has been working to improve access to oral healthcare for older adults through the Wisdom Tooth Project, focusing on including dental coverage in Medicare.
The fields of dentistry and medicine have been separated for many years. In the meantime, more and more studies confirmed links between oral and whole-body health. These include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, dementia, and many others.
With all these new facts being revealed, it has become evident that oral health care is necessary to adults’ general health and life quality.
The U.S. healthcare system was woefully unprepared to meet the oral health challenges of a burgeoning population of older adults with special needs, chronic disease complications, and a growing inability to access and pay for dental services.
It was time for the Wisdom Tooth Project to proceed. A firm belief that everyone deserves access to primary dental care grew into action. The project started to connect communities with support and resources to access care. On a daily basis, they advocated for all older adults’ oral health, especially those most vulnerable.
The Wisdom Tooth Project has worked actively for over ten years. During this time, they have helped thousands of people by providing reliable medical guides and matching them with affordable dental specialists.

What is a State of Decay report?
A State of Decay by Oral Health America (OHA) is a state-by-state report of the oral health of the country's 65+ population and the success or failure of states to address those needs.
It is one of five strategies for OHA’s Wisdom Tooth Project, a program designed to meet the oral health challenges of a burgeoning population of community dwelling older adults, their family caregivers and the health professionals who work to help them age healthily and independently.
